The constitution begins..
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
–Preamble to the United States Constitution”
Initially a document called the “Articles of Confederation” was written which described how the country would be organized but it was inadequate and in 1787, after the constitutional convention, the constitution was drafted and signed and later ratified by the initial colonies
